Garnet

Garnet is the traditional and modern birthstone for January. Garnets range in colour from deep red and dark pink/purple to yellow, orange, green and blue with the deep red variety most associated with January. Garnets signify trust and friendship. It was also considered a talisman from nature's forces like storm and lightning. It was widely accepted that garnet could signal approaching danger by turning pale.
